Will Seema Haider return as India orders expulsion of Pakistani nationals ? This is what her lawyer says
PTC News Desk: As Indian government gears up to unleash full-scale action against Pakistan in response to the horrific Pahalgam massacre which took lives of 26 people, the uncertainty over Seema Haider's stay in India looms large.
Seema Haider who left Pakistan and entered India illegally to marry her lover Sachin after Central government cancelled Visas of Pakistani nationals and ordered their expulsion. Seema, who was already married back home in Sindh province, had illegally entered India via Nepal in 2023 along with her four children.
However Seema's lawyer said that she will be allowed to live in India as she is no longer a citizen of Pakistan.
"Seema is no longer a Pakistani national. She married Sachin Meena, a resident of Greater Noida, and recently gave birth to their daughter, Bharti Meena. Her citizenship is now connected with her Indian husband, and therefore the Centre's directive should not apply to her," her lawyer Advocate AP Singh said.
Singh argued that the Centre's order was applicable only to those who currently hold Pakistani citizenship.
"Seema is in India, and she is Indian. A woman's nationality is determined by her husband's nationality after marriage," he said.
He further asserted that a petition has been filed on her behaf with the President of India.
