'Will do whatever is possible': Iran offers support on humanitarian grounds in Nimisha Priya death row
PTC News Desk: In death sentence to Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, Iran has extended help on humanitarian grounds. Iran has said that it would do whatever is possible in the matter.
Nimisha Priya, is on death row in Yemen for allegedly killing a Yemen national. On December 30 last year, Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi approved the death sentence for Nimisha Priya, who has been in prison since 2017.
Nimisha Priya, originally from Kerala's Palakkad district, was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mehdi in July 2017. In 2020, a trial court in Sanaa sentenced her to death, and her appeal was rejected by Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council in November 2023.
Meanwhile ministry of external affairs has assured all possible help to Nimisha's family.
"We are aware of the sentencing of Nimisha Priya in Yemen. We understand that the family of Nimisha Priya is exploring relevant options. The government is extending all possible help in the matter," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said.
Nimisha's mother Prema Kumari met her daughter for the first time in 11 years in April 2024. Since then she is in Yemen to secure her daughter's release.
