Who is Amit Gupta, Indian techie detained in Qatar for over two months ?
PTC News Desk: Amit Gupta, an Indian techie working for IT firm Tech Mahindra has been reportedly detained in Qatar for more than two months in connection with ongoing investigation.
The embassy is also in regular contact with Gupta’s family, his lawyer, and Qatari authorities. Gupta was taken into custody by Qatari authorities on January 1.
Why has been Gupta detained ?
Amit Gupta is currently working at IT firm Tech Mahindra and has been detained in Qatar for three months. Hailing from Gujarat's Vadodra, Gupta relocated to Dohan in 2013.
According to the reports, Gupta was working as the region head for Qatar and Kuwait at Tech Mahindra, overseeing business operations. Before assuming this role, he worked as a senior sales manager and client partner at the company, with nearly 12 years of experience at the Indian IT giant.
Amit Gupta has been allegedly detained for stealing data. However his family claims that he has been wrongfully accused of the theft and he is innocent.
"Amit Gupta was detained on January 1 and held for 48 hours without food or water. After that, he was locked in a room, and it has now been three months that he has been held in Doha. The reason for his detention is still unknown," Amit Gupta's mother, Pushpa Gupta said.
