Who is Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh? Know all about new IAF Chief

PTC News Desk: Centre has appointed Air Marshal AP Singh as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force. He will assume the charge on September 30.

Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh currently serves as Vice Chief of the Air Staff. He will follow Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, and ADC, who will retire on September 30.


Who is Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh?

Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh became the Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force on February 1, 2023. His journey in the Indian Air Force began in 1984.

Singh was commissioned into the Indian Air Force's fighter stream on December 21, 1984. Before becoming in charge of the prestigious Central Air Command (CAC), he was the Senior Air Staff Officer of the Eastern Air Command.

Singh, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and National Defence College, has held several significant positions, including Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 squadron and Air Officer Commanding of an air base.

As a test pilot, he commanded the MiG-29 upgrade project management team in Moscow. He was also the project director (flight test) at the National Flight Test Centre, where he oversaw the flight testing of the Tejas light combat aircraft.

The Air Marshal has received both the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
