PTC News Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert predicting heavy rainfall across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. The alert indicates the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in these regions. Additionally, Delhi is expected to experience light rainfall throughout the day.

Maharashtra Weather Update

Mumbai experienced another bout of heavy rain on Friday, with the IMD forecasting continued downpours. According to the IMD’s bulletin, Maharashtra can expect “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in isolated locations over the next 24 hours.

Specifically, the bulletin mentioned, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Madhya Maharashtra on September 27, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall expected on September 28.”

The previous rains have already led to significant waterlogging across several areas, disrupting local train and flight services. In Mumbai, neighbourhoods such as Kurla East, Nehru Nagar, and Chembur faced severe waterlogging, while significant traffic jams were reported on the Kurla bridge.

Additionally, a landslide at the Mumbra bypass hampered traffic movement. In light of the heavy rainfall, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai on Thursday.

Weather Updates for Goa and Gujarat

The IMD forecasts widespread light to moderate rainfall over the Konkan and Goa regions this week, along with rain in Gujarat over the next three days.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, is likely over Konkan and Goa and the Gujarat region on September 27. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Saurashtra and Kutch on the same day, with heavy rainfall anticipated in the Gujarat region, Saurashtra, and Kutch on September 28,” the IMD stated.

Rainfall in Madhya Pradesh

The IMD has also projected scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall in central India, particularly over West Madhya Pradesh, during the next three days.

Jammu and Kashmir Conditions

Heavy rains lashed Jammu on Friday, leading to a drop in temperatures across the Valley. The IMD has indicated that light rain is expected in isolated areas throughout the day. “Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh on September 27, with isolated heavy rainfall anticipated in Uttarakhand on September 28,” the IMD added.

Heavy rainfall is expected in South Interior Karnataka on September 29 and in coastal Karnataka on September 30,” the IMD reported.

Bengal and Northeastern States

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday, with a subsequent reduction in rain intensity. “Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar on September 27, with isolated heavy rainfall anticipated over Jharkhand,” the bulletin stated.

In the northeastern states, heavy rainfall is expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Friday, with further rainfall predicted from September 30 to October 2. Rain is also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on September 27 and 28.
