Weather update: Punjab, Haryana, Delhi shiver as mercury dips, fog reduces visibility
PTC News Desk: Cold weather conditions and dense fog engulfed the North India regions on Saturday morning. Dense fog engulfed Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and other parts of North India, reducing visibility and affecting the commuters and traffic during the early hours on Saturday.
The maximum temperature in Delhi was 9.6 degrees Celsius at Palam and 8.9 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung.
On Saturday, the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh issued an "orange" alert for dense to very dense fog in parts of Punjab and Haryana, and a "yellow" alert for dense fog on January 7.
Several flights in North India were delayed due to fog and harsh weather conditions.
Spicejet also issued a flight delay advisory to passengers due to fog.
"Due to expected poor visibility in Amritsar(ATQ), Jammu(IXJ), Varanasi(VNS), Gorakhpur(GOP), Patna(PAT), Jaipur(JAI), Shirdi(SAG) and Darbhanga(DBR) all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected," SpiceJet announced on its website.
Several trains running to and from the national capital were also hampered by fog and inclement weather.
"My train was delayed by four to five hours, which could be due to weather conditions. A lot of trains were cancelled too due to the cold wave", said a passenger.
Due to fog in the area, 22 trains heading to the national capital were delayed on Friday.
People also sat by bonfires in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, to keep warm as the temperature dropped.
