Parliament security breach: 'We saw how afraid they were,' says Rahul Gandhi
Parliament Security Breach: In a recent turn of events, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi drew a connection between the recent security breach in the Lok Sabha and the prevailing issue of unemployment. Gandhi, addressing a protest against the suspension of opposition lawmakers, criticised BJP MPs for allegedly fleeing when intruders breached security in the Parliament House.
Gandhi highlighted the incident where a few individuals entered the Parliament House, releasing colored smoke, and criticised BJP MPs for their perceived fear. He questioned how the intruders managed to bring gas cylinders inside, emphasising the potential security risks.
“A few days ago, 2-3 youths jumped inside the Parliament House, we all saw, they came inside and spread some smoke. All the BJP MPs ran away. They call themselves nationalists but we saw how afraid they were,” Gandhi said.
Asserting that the intruders aimed to spotlight the pressing issue of unemployment, Gandhi expressed concern over the high levels of joblessness in the country. He lamented the condition of the youth, attributing their extensive mobile phone usage to unemployment.
The former Congress president also criticised the media for allegedly neglecting critical issues such as unemployment and the suspension of opposition MPs, accusing them of focusing solely on trivial matters like his recording of a mimicry act. The protest at Jantar Mantar, organised by leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc under the theme 'Save Democracy,' saw participation from senior opposition figures, including Sharad Pawar, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sitaram Yechury, and Rahul Gandhi. The demonstration aimed to denounce the suspension of 146 opposition MPs during the Winter Session of Parliament, which concluded abruptly.
NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar expressed the opposition's readiness to make sacrifices to safeguard democracy. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor emphasised that the protest aimed to convey the message that recent events were detrimental to the country's future. The collective call at Jantar Mantar resonated against what opposition leaders perceived as a stifling of democratic voices.
