Violent clash at PU Chandigarh: One student killed, 4 injured during Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma’s show

PTC Web Desk: A violent clash erupted between two student groups during a live performance by Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. The altercation resulted in the fatal stabbing of a student, while four others sustained injuries. The deceased student, identified as Aditya Thakur, was a resident of Himachal Pradesh and a second-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) student at PU.

Following the incident, the police at Sector 11 police station registered a murder case and launched an investigation.

According to initial police reports, the incident took place on Friday evening during Masoom Sharma’s performance at Panjab University. A scuffle broke out behind the stage between two rival student groups, escalating into violence. Amid the chaos, four students were stabbed, and the attackers fled the scene. The injured students were rushed to the hospital, where Aditya Thakur succumbed to his injuries.

Masoom Sharma’s concert had drawn a significant crowd, with students and other attendees arriving well before the scheduled time. The singer reached PU at around 6 pm and began his performance. However, the loud music and student cheers masked the sounds of the fight taking place behind the stage. It was only when Aditya Thakur collapsed from his injuries that other students noticed the violence and raised the alarm.

Following the incident, police officials and university security personnel arrived at the scene. Despite heavy security deployment at PU’s entry gates and inside the venue, the brawl resulted in a fatality.

Parvinder Singh Negi, ABVP president at Panjab University, condemned the violence and said they would protest against the security lapse.

Notably, Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has been in the spotlight recently due to the government’s ban on several of his songs, which allegedly promote gun culture. A total of seven of his songs have been banned.
