Vijay Diwas 2024: A tale of India's triumph over Pakistan in 1971 war

PTC News Desk: Vijay Diwas which is celebrated every year on December 16 commemorating nation's triumph over Pakistan in 1971 Indo-Pak war. The war not only lead to India's win but also resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh. 


This day remains etched in history with great reverence as the nation pays tribute to the bravery of armed forces who lost their lives in the battle. 

The victory also redefined the geopolitics of South Asia signifying India's firm stance against oppression with promotion of democratic values and regional stability. 

The war broke out on December 3 only lasted for 13 days. On December 16, 1971, Lieutenant General A.A.K. Niazi of the Pakistani Army signed the Instrument of Surrender in Dhaka. The actmarked the end of the war while celebrating the liberation of Bangladesh as sovereign nation. 

Vijay Diwas stands as a solemn tribute to the bravery, sacrifice, and strategic excellence of the Indian Armed Forces. The occasion is observed across the country with events such as wreath-laying ceremonies, military parades, and cultural celebrations.

Special homage is paid at the National War Memorial in New Delhi to remember the soldiers who gave their lives for the nation.

This victory symbolizes India’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding freedom, democracy, and human values. Vijay Diwas also highlights the importance of supporting and honoring the armed forces, whose sacrifices protect the nation’s integrity and sovereignty.
