PTC News Desk: Vehicle movement on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district has been halted due to falling and piling debris in five locations.

Chamoli Police, Uttarakhand, said on X, "The Badrinath National Highway has been blocked due to debris near Bhanerpani, old Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti, Kanchen Ganga, Chhinka Paagalnala and Helang in Chamoli district."

The disruption has impacted heavily used routes, leaving many commuters and locals stranded.

On Friday, traffic on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district was stalled for many hours due to debris in two locations.

According to Chamoli Police, debris near Angthala in the Kotwali Chamoli area led the Badrinath National Highway to become blocked. The incident was reported at approximately 6.54 a.m.

Similarly, falling debris between Bhanerpani (Pipalkoti) and the Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti region was seen at about 6.49 a.m.

These incidents delayed traffic on the Badrinath National Highway.

Local authorities and police initiated an operation to clear the debris, and traffic was restored at both places within three hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert on Friday for exceptionally heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and other states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Between July 3 and July 6, Uttarakhand is likely to experience heavy (64.5-115.5 m), very heavy (115.5-204.44 mm), and extremely heavy rainfall (204.4 mm).

On July 7, the state is anticipated to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, according to the IMD.
