Veer Bal Diwas: A day to commemorate bravery and sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's sons
PTC News Desk: Veer Bal Diwas, a day of brave children is a national commemoration to honour the unparalleled bravery, sacrifice and valor of the tenth Sikh guru— Guru Gobind Singh’s youngest sons.
The day is observed annually on December 26 to remember the sacrifice of Guru ji and his sons to safeguard the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his social media and paid tribute to the extraordinary sacrifice of tenth Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. "Today, on Veer Baal Diwas, we remember the unparalleled bravery and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas. At a young age, they stood firm in their faith and principles, inspiring generations with their courage. Their sacrifice is a shining example of valour and a commitment to one’s values. We also remember the bravery of Mata Gujri Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. May they always guide us towards building a more just and compassionate society," he wrote.

In 2022, on Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, PM Modi announced December 26 to be declared Veer Bal Diwas' to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji.
Veer Bal Diwas: History and Significance
The day holds profound significance as it honours the seemingly remarkable sacrifice of Sikh warriors who refused to convert to Islam and renounce their faith despite adverse pressure and instead chose martyrdom.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji had four sons, Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh. The elder sons Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh attained martyrdom while fighting against Mughals who ruled Punjab at that time and forced Guru ji to leave Anandpur Sahib along with his family.
Meanwhile during the chaos that encircled Anandpur Sahib and betrayal by their cook Gangu, Mughals captured Mata ji and youngest sons of Guruji Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji.
Nawab Wazir Khan subjected Mata Gujri and her younger sons to severe torture. Despite being pressured to convert their religion, they stood firm and refused to denounce their faith. On 26 December 1705, both young Sahibzadas were buried alive in a wall by Wazir Khan for refusing to renounce their beliefs. Upon learning about this tragedy, Mata Gujri also sacrificed her life.
