Uttarkashi tunnel collapse: A dreadful, shocking and horrific mishap is a reminder of not to mess with the nature.
The joy and excitement of workers working for under-construction tunnel is now witnessing a heart-wrenching moments, screams with hopes of the family shattered.
As the rescue and evacuation process in Uttarkashi tunnel mishap to evacuate 41 trapped workers reaches its 12th day today, the medial equipment reached the site as to intensify efforts to rescue workers.
As per the statement by the top official, rescue Day 12 is considered as the most important, crucial and final phase to evacuate trapped labourers and the workers are expected to be pulled out from the collapsed tunnel today.
1. The collapse occurred on November 12 during the construction of a tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot, trapping 41 labourers due to a muck fall in a 60-metre stretch on the Silkyara side of the tunnel.
2. As of midnight, rescue teams had said that about 10 metres of debris separated them from the trapped workers.
3. The operation involved drilling through the debris to push wide pipes for the trapped workers to walk out through. The auger machine, which drills through about 3 metres of debris in an hour, had earlier hit a metal obstruction.
4. A total of five agencies-- ONGC, SJVNL, RVNL, NHIDCL, and THDCL-- have been assigned specific responsibilities to evacuate the trapped labourers trapped for 12 days in the 2-km-built portion of the under-construction structure following a landslide.
5. Labourers trapped in Silkyara tunnel were supplied water, food, oxygen and other necessary essentials through a food pipe stuck through the collapsed part of the structure.
6. Local communities and relatives of the trapped workers continue to offer prayers at a temple erected near the tunnel entrance, where the relentless rescue operations persist.
7. The tunnel under construction holds significance as part of the expansive Char Dham project, a national initiative aimed at bolstering connectivity to revered Hindu pilgrimage sites like Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
