Uttarakhand tragedy: Five of family dead as car falls into river in Devprayag, one woman survives
PTC Web Desk: In a heartbreaking incident in Uttarakhand's Tehri district, five members of a family were killed when their car plunged into a river near Devprayag on Saturday. A sixth passenger, a woman, miraculously survived and is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby medical facility.
According to officials, the vehicle was travelling along a hilly stretch when it suddenly lost control and fell into a deep gorge, crashing into the river below. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but preliminary reports point towards overspeeding and possible driver error. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the site after receiving an alert and launched a full-scale rescue operation.
Due to the steep terrain and the force of the river current, it took several hours to retrieve the mangled car using cranes and heavy equipment. “All five deceased have been identified and their bodies recovered. The survivor is in a state of trauma but stable,” an SDRF official said. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
