US responds to India's summoning of diplomat over Arvind Kejriwal's comments
PTC Nes Desk: In reaction to India's summoning of a senior US diplomat regarding remarks on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in the liquor policy case, the US emphasised the need for "fair and transparent legal processes."
US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stressed the importance of fair legal proceedings, including those related to Arvind Kejriwal's arrest. He also addressed concerns raised by India regarding the freezing of Congress's bank accounts, urging fairness and transparency in dealing with each issue.

While Miller declined to comment on India's summoning of the US diplomat, citing diplomatic confidentiality, he reiterated the US stance on the matter publicly, emphasising the importance of fair legal processes. India had previously expressed strong objection to Washington's statement regarding Kejriwal's arrest, leading to the summoning of Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Gloria Berbena by Ministry of External Affairs officials in Delhi.
The Indian government underscored the principles of sovereignty and mutual respect in diplomatic relations, emphasizing the importance of refraining from casting doubt on India's legal processes.

India's legal system, based on an independent judiciary committed to impartial and timely outcomes, was defended by the Ministry of External Affairs against any insinuations undermining its integrity. This diplomatic incident follows India's earlier protest against remarks made by the German foreign ministry concerning Kejriwal's arrest in connection with a money laundering case related to the liquor policy.
