Union Budget 2025: Budget session begins today; FM to table economic Survey

PTC Web Desk: The Budget Session of Parliament begins on Friday, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of both Houses at 11 am. Following this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey 2024-25 in Lok Sabha at 12 noon and Rajya Sabha at 2 pm, setting the stage for the Union Budget 2025, which will be presented on February 1.

Legislative agenda: Key Bills on banking, railways, and disaster management


The session will deliberate on several significant bills, including:

Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – Strengthening banking regulations.

Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – Enhancing railway efficiency.

Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – Improving disaster response mechanisms.

Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 & Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2024 – Reforming religious endowment management.

Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024 – Updating oil exploration laws.

Boilers Bill, 2024 – Implementing new safety standards for industrial boilers.

Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of Goa Bill, 2024 – Addressing reallocation of constituencies for Scheduled Tribes.

Maritime and aviation laws under review

The government will introduce Bills to modernise shipping laws, including the Bills of Lading Bill, 2024, Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2024, Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, and Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024. The Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill, 2025 will also be discussed to safeguard financial interests in aviation.

Budget and Financial Business

The session will cover crucial financial business, including:

Discussion and voting on Demands for Grants 2025-26 – Approving government spending.

Second and Final Batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants 2024-25 – Allocating additional funds.

Demands for Excess Grants 2021-22 – Addressing overspending by ministries in 2021-22.

The Finance Bill, 2025, essential for implementing budget proposals, will also be introduced.
