Body of 'abducted' Territorial Army jawan found with gunshot wounds in Anantnag
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic development, the body of a Territorial Army jawan, Hilal Ahmed Bhat, was found on Wednesday in the forests of Sangalwan, Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir. The soldier's body showed signs of gunshot wounds. However, the Army has not yet confirmed if the incident was related to a terrorist attack.
Hilal Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Mukhdampora, Nowgam, Anantnag, went missing on October 8 during a military operation in the Kajwan forest area of Kokernag. Security forces launched a search operation throughout the night to locate him, and his body was eventually found in the dense forest region of Sangalwan.
Hilal had joined the Territorial Army four years ago. He is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents.
Initial reports from security sources suggested that two Territorial Army soldiers had been abducted by militants in Anantnag. According to sources cited by news agency ANI, one of the abducted soldiers managed to escape. Following these reports, the Army launched an intensive search operation in the area.
This incident comes amid ongoing anti-infiltration operations along the border. Security forces had initiated a search operation on October 4 in the Keran sector of Kupwara following intelligence reports of terrorist infiltration. On October 5, the forces successfully neutralised two militants and recovered a cache of ammunition.
The search operations continue across the border regions as the security forces remain on high alert to thwart any attempts at infiltration by militants.
