Trudeau govt stalls NIA's request to obtain Nijjar's death certificate
PTC News Desk: Canada has refused to entertain NIA's request to obtain Hardeep Singh Nijjar's death certificate. The national investigation agency had sought Nijjar's death certificate to complete the investigation in the cases in which he was named accused but the request was stalled asking to cite the relevant reason for seeking document.

The agency has also not secured an Interpol red-corner notice against Nijjar yet. An NIA officer said that, "“There are two cases registered with the NIA in which Nijjar was named as one of the accused. To complete the documentation work of their case files, the investigation officer needs to show his (Nijjar’s) death certificate before a Delhi court and that is why they have asked the Canadian government under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) to share his death certificate. But instead of sharing it, they have asked the reason for asking it and now replies will be sent to them,”
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a Canadian citizen and chief oh separatist organization Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) who was also designated terrorist by Union Home Ministry in 2020 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
NIA had registered a FIR against Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Paramjeet Singh Pamma and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on the charges of spreading lawlessness and creating an atmosphere of fear and inflicting rebellious nature against government.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh activist and citizen of Canada was shot dead in British Columbia in June last year that triggered a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada. The row had took a more rough patch when Canadian authorities named Indian officials as "persons of interest" in Nijjar murder case.
