Tragic death of NEET aspirant in Kota marks 13th self killing case this year
PTC News Desk: On Wednesday, a 21-year-old medical aspirant was found dead in an apparent suicide at his rented accommodation in Kota, marking the 13th suspected suicide case among coaching students in the city this year. The deceased, identified as Parshuram, had recently moved to Kota from Barsana, Mathura, just a week ago to prepare for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET).
The incident came to light when Parshuram's landlord, Anoop Kumar, noticed that the student had been out of sight for several hours. According to Sub-Inspector Gopal Lal Bairwa, Kumar last saw Parshuram while he was drying clothes in the evening. Concerned by the lack of response when he knocked on the door, Kumar contacted the police around 11:30 pm.
Upon arrival, the police found Parshuram's body and immediately called in a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to gather evidence. The body was transported to the mortuary at MBS Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted once Parshuram’s family arrives in Kota.

Preliminary reports suggest that Parshuram died by hanging. However, the exact reasons for his suicide remain unknown, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
This tragic event adds to a troubling pattern in Kota, a city known for its numerous coaching centers for competitive exams like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and NEET. This year alone, Kota has seen 12 other student suicides, underscoring a growing concern about the mental health of students in the high-pressure environment of coaching institutes.
Despite various efforts by Kota Police and local authorities to mitigate student stress and prevent such tragedies, the number of suicides continues to rise, highlighting the urgent need for improved support systems and mental health resources for students.
