PTC News Desk: The Indian Medical Association has suspended Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, where a trainee doctor was brutally r@ped and murdered earlier this month.

Dr Ghosh, who was given a lie detector test on Monday, has been accused of negligence in the matter, including failing to file a police report after the woman's body was found. He is not charged with the doctor's murder, but he is facing non-bailable corruption allegations.

However, there have been allegations that corruption at the RG Kar Hospital, where a former employee accused Dr Ghosh of trafficking in dead bodies and biomedical waste, is linked to the murder.

The CBI has questioned Dr Ghosh for about 90 hours, after conducting an extensive 11-hour search of his Kolkata residence and claiming to have seized a "wealth of evidence".

In a brief statement, IMA stated, "(parents of the doctor) ... put up their grievances against you in dealing with the situation as well as lack of empathy and sensitivity in handling the issue..."

The IMA also pointed to complaints made by doctors in Bengal, claiming that Dr Ghosh had brought the profession to shame, and stated that the disciplinary committee had chosen to suspend him.
