With Air Quality Index surpassing 400 in several parts of the city, residents are waking up to a thick layer of smog posing severe respiratory challenges. There are certain factors which are major contributors to the deteriorating AQI.

Delhi Air Pollution: Top contributors responsible for deteriorating AQI

PTC News Desk: Delhi has been witnessing deteriorating air quality since past few weeks. However the condition has been worsening post diwali where firecrackers cases witnessed a spike despite the a government ban on the selling and purchasing.

With Air Quality Index surpassing 400 in several parts of the city, residents are waking up to a thick layer of smog posing severe respiratory challenges. There are certain factors which are major contributors to the deteriorating AQI. 


Stubble Burning

Data from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, reveals that stubble burning accounted for 23.4% of Delhi's pollution levels yesterday. This figure was nearly 15% on Saturday and 20% on Sunday.

Vehicular Emissions

Vehicular emissions is a significant factor, contributing 13.7 percent to the city's pollution.

Waste Burning

It is a major concern in the city contributing over 1.3 per cent to the pollution.

Industries, Construction work

Industries within Delhi and its neighboring areas were responsible for 3.4 percent of the region's pollution. Construction activities contributed close to 2 percent, while road dust accounted for 1 percent of the overall pollution in Delhi.
