'There should be limit': Eknath Shinde's first reaction amid Kunal Kamra joke row
PTC News Desk: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde addressed the controversy surrounding stand-up comedian Kumar Kamra's 'gaddar' (traitor) joke on Tuesday, stating that while satire is understood, it should have its limits.
Shinde also seemed to indirectly defend the vandalism of the Mumbai studio by Shiv Sena workers, remarking that "action causes reaction." His comments follow growing criticism of the incident, with opposition leaders condemning it as an attack on free speech.
"A person should maintain a certain level. Otherwise, action causes a reaction. Freedom of speech is there. We understand satire. But there should be a limit. This is like taking 'supari' (contract) to speak against someone," said Shinde.
What Kunal Kamra Said
Kamra who is knows for his outspoken comedy sparked a row with his jibe targeting Shinde with a parody version of 'Bholi Si Surat'. He used the 'gaddar' (traitor) jibe against the Shiv Sena leader, who led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray in 2022, bringing down his government and splitting the party.
