Supreme Court restrains Sambhal court's mosque survey order until High Court's verdict
PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court ha aske the trial court to not proceed with the the mosque survey case until the Shahi Idgah committee of the Jama Masjid moves the High Court.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar have also ordered the commissioner who conducted the survey to keep the report confidential.
The top court has also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to maintain peace and harmony in Sambhal following the clashes broke out due to the mosque survey. "Peace and harmony have to be maintained. We don't want anything to happen... we have to be absolutely, totally neutral and ensure nothing wrong is done," the court said.
The Supreme Court's order comes after Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid Committee challenged the order passed by the trial court authorising the survey of the mosque.
The top court said the petition filed by the mosque committee before the High Court should be listed within three working days. The Supreme Court, however, kept the committee's plea before it pending and ordered it to be listed in the week starting January 6, 2025.
