Supreme Court grants interim bail to Asaram Bapu on medical grounds till March 31
PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to self styled godman Asaram Bapu on medical grounds till March 31. The court has strictly ordered Asaram Bapu against meeting his followers after release and not to tamper the evidence.
The apex court has also directed security personnel to be deployed for supervision during the bail period. The godman has been granted paroles periodically to visit Pune, where he has been undergoing treatment.
Asaram bapu is currently undergoing treatment at the Arogya Medical Centre in Jodhpur and serving his sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail. Bapu is a heart patient and had suffered a heart attack earlier. A Jodhpur court sentenced Asaram with life imprisonment for raping a teen girl in his ashram. Earlier in 2023, a Gujarat court convicted Bapu for raping a woman disciple on multiple occasions in his ashram.
The Supreme Court relief for Bapu comes days after he was granted parole for 17 days on December 18 last month. He returned to Jodhpur jail on January 1.
