Supreme Court Collegium recommends 5 advocates for judgeships in Punjab and Haryana High Court

New Delhi, October 18: The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sanjiv Khanna, has made several recommendations for the appointment of judges in different high courts.

The following are key recommendations made by the collegium:


Gauhati High Court:

The collegium has recommended the names of advocates N Unni Krishnan Nair and Kaushik Goswami as judges of the Gauhati High Court. This recommendation follows the consultation by the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court with his two most senior colleagues, who had recommended the elevation of these advocates to the high court. The collegium considered the views received from the constitutional authorities of the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland. In evaluating the candidates, the collegium took into account the material presented, including observations by the Department of Justice and complaints against some candidates.

Uttarakhand High Court:

Advocates Siddhartha Sah and Alok Mahra have been recommended by the collegium for appointment as Judges of the Uttarakhand High Court.

Punjab and Haryana High Court:


The collegium has recommended advocates Harmeet Singh Grewal, Deepinder Singh Nalwa, Sumeet Goel, Sudeepti Sharma, and Kirti Singh for appointment as judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Madhya Pradesh High Court:

Advocates Vinay Saraf, Vivek Jain, Ashish Shroti, and Amit Seth have been recommended by the collegium for appointment as Judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The recommendations were made by the Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues. The views of the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Madhya Pradesh regarding the suitability of the candidates were also taken into account. The collegium scrutinised and evaluated the material provided and considered observations made by the Department of Justice as well as complaints against some candidates.

These recommendations are part of the continuous process of appointing judges to various high courts, ensuring that the judiciary remains robust and effective.
