PTC News Desk: A survey team that arrived at the Shahi Jama Masjid on Sunday to perform a survey of the mosque in Sambhal district was stone-pelted by some "anti-social elements".

The video shows cops using tear gas to quell the situation in the area.

Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Uttar Pradesh, stated that the situation is now under control.

DGP Prashant Kumar said, "A survey is being carried out in Sambhal on the directives of the court. Some anti-social elements hurled stones. Police and senior officers are present on the scene. The situation is under control, and the police will identify the stone hurlers and take proper legal action."

This survey was part of a legal process that began with a petition filed by senior advocate Vishnu Shanker Jain, who claimed the mosque was previously a temple.

A similar survey was previously done on November 19, with local police and representatives of the mosque's management committee present to supervise the proceedings.

Following the incident, the police urged Sambhal residents to cease throwing stones at the survey team, who had arrived to undertake an inspection of the mosque.
