Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra challenge ED's eviction notice in High Court

PTC News Desk: Actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra have filed a petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the Enforcement Directorate's notice directing them to vacate their property in Mumbai's Juhu area and a farmhouse in Pune in connection with a money-laundering investigation.

The pleas were heard on Wednesday by a division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan. The court issued a notice to ED and set the matter for a hearing on Thursday.

The pleas dispute ED orders dated September 27 issued to Shetty and Kundra, asking them to vacate their Mumbai residence and property in Pune within ten days in connection with a money-laundering investigation involving an alleged Bitcoin fraud.

Shetty and Kundra received their eviction notices on October 3, according to their lawyer, Prashant Patil. He claimed that the notices were arbitrary and illegal, and he demanded that they be quashed.

According to the pleas, there is no compelling reason for the petitioners to evacuate their premises, and the issue of such eviction notices was unnecessary.

"The petitioners are also seeking relief on humanitarian grounds as the premise in question is their residential premise in which they have been staying with their family of six members for almost two decades," the petitions state.

The petitions additionally urged the court to stay the effect of the eviction notices.

According to the pleas, in 2018, the ED filed a complaint against Amit Bhardwaj and others for alleged Bitcoin fraud and money laundering. Shetty and her husband have not been named as accused in the case.
