'Sanjay Roy sole suspect': CBI rules out gang sexual assault in Kolkata doctor murder case

PTC Web Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out the possibility of gang sexual assault in the tragic case involving the murder and sexual assault of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The agency has identified Sanjay Roy as the sole suspect, as per a report in NDTV.

As per the report in NDTV, the evidence available currently points exclusively to Sanjay Roy, with the investigation now in its "final stages." The CBI is preparing to file charges soon. The case was transferred to the CBI from the Kolkata Police, which had been criticised for its handling of the investigation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed frustration over the delay, saying, "They don't want justice. They want delay. It has been 16 days, where is justice?" State minister Bratya Basu also criticised the CBI for a lack of progress reports, noting that the Kolkata Police had provided more regular updates.

According to NDTV, the CBI has forwarded a medical report containing the accused's DNA to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for analysis. The agency will finalise their report once the results are received. Besides, the CBI has determined that no one else, apart from Sanjay Roy, was involved in the horrific sexual assault and murder of the trainee doctor on August 9.

The CBI has recorded over 100 statements and conducted 10 polygraph tests in the course of the investigation. They have also levied charges related to financial irregularities against Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with the case.

Three arrests have been made concerning financial fraud and racketeering related to the RG Kar hospital, but no conclusive arrest has yet been made in the sexual assault and murder case.
