Saif Ali Khan attack case: Two suspects detained from MP and Chhattisgarh

PTC Web Desk: The police have detained two suspects in connection with the recent attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The arrests were made on Saturday in coordinated operations in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, as per sources.

The first suspect was apprehended in Madhya Pradesh, where the Mumbai police, in collaboration with the local authorities, detained the individual for questioning. The second suspect, identified as Akash, was detained by the Railway Police in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district. Acting on leads provided by the Mumbai police, the railway authorities intercepted the suspect aboard the Gyaneshwari Express. A team from the Mumbai police is now en route to Chhattisgarh to interrogate the suspect further.

The 54-year-old actor was attacked in the early hours of Thursday at his Bandra home, sustaining multiple stab injuries, including wounds to his neck and near the spine. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is out of danger now.

Police investigations revealed that the attacker entered the room of Saif’s younger son, Jehangir, demanding Rs 1 crore as ransom. Notably, despite jewellery being visibly present, the intruder did not take any valuables. According to Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif’s wife, the assailant grew aggressive during the incident but avoided looting.

Over 50 hours after the attack, police efforts to locate the main accused are ongoing. Fresh CCTV footage has emerged showing the suspect purchasing headphones at a shop in Dadar shortly after the attack.

The police suspect that the attacker may have used a local train from Bandra to escape or move around the city. Multiple teams are analysing surveillance footage from railway stations across Mumbai to track his movements.

Doctors at Lilavati Hospital have confirmed that Saif Ali Khan is recovering well. Neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange stated that the actor has been shifted from the ICU to a general ward and is now walking and on a normal diet.

“We are monitoring his progress, and if all goes well, we expect to discharge him in two to three days,” Dr  Dange said.

The attack on Saif Ali Khan has raised serious questions about celebrity security. While the police have made headway with the detention of two suspects, the search for the primary attacker continues.

The incident has sparked widespread public concern, with fans and industry insiders calling for a thorough investigation.
