Ruckus erupts at Delhi MCD House as BJP Councilors protest over havoc triggered by heavy rain, Yamuna

New Delhi, July 31: Ruckus erupts at the House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors protested over the havoc triggered by heavy rainfall and the surge in the water level of the Yamuna River.

Councillors of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shouted slogans against Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. BJP Councilors could also be seen holding placards with “Jhoota Kahi ka”, and “Sharm karo Kejriwal” written on it. Shelly Oberoi responded by adjourning the House, but the commotion continued.

Later that day, Shelly Oberoi said, "BJP has to realize that they're not ruling in the MCD House because the Delhi public handed the mandate to AAP in the corporation...We are awaiting the Supreme Court's decision on nominated councillors, and until then, we should avoid party politics and concentrate on the regulations of establishing ward committees in accordance with the DMC statute and constitution."

At 4 p.m. on July 27, the Yamuna River had a water level of 205.98 meters. It was measured at 205.83 meters at 10:00 a.m. the same day.

On Thursday, the Hindon River in the NCR experienced a surge in water level, flooding numerous low-lying and flood plains of Noida. According to the visuals, the region near Ecotech 3 became inundated as a result of the rising water level, and several vehicles became stuck in the water.

Previously, Yamuna's water level in Delhi fell below the danger mark on Tuesday, with the level reported at 205.32 metres at 7 p.m. The rise in water level has been an issue of concern, resulting in a flood-like situation in the national capital and neighbouring regions.

After reaching an all-time high of 208.66 metres on July 13, the river water level had been sticking around the danger mark of 205.33 metres for the last few days.
