Covid-19 surge: RT PCR made mandatory for arrivals from China, Thailand and 4 other countries from Jan 1

Covid-19 surge: New Delhi, December 29: Amid a surge in cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7 in China and other countries, the Centre has made RT PCR mandatory for all flyers from China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Singapore from January 1. 

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted that they would have to upload their Covid reports on Air Suvidha portal before undertaking the journey.

Health experts say the next 40 days would be crucial as India might see a surge in Covid cases in mid-January. They came to this conclusion after studying the previous trends of Covid surge in the country. Amid an uptick in cases, the health authorities in all states and UTs are on high alert and reviewing healthcare facilities on a regular basis to prevent another wave. 

Hospitals across the country also performed mock drills recently to take stock of the current situation amid Covid cases. 


Meanwhile, amid threat still looming large,  it is learnt China's immigration authorities have decided to receive applications for issuing passports for tourism and visits abroad beginning January 8, NHK World reported.

The Chinese government has made it mind to ease border restrictions and resume overseas visits in an orderly manner and as per international Covid-19 situation.
