Rooftop solar scheme: Here's all you need to know about 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana'
Rooftop solar scheme: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana - a scheme to encourage people to install solar panels on their rooftops on Tuesday.
Modi stated that the rooftop solar scheme has an investment of over Rs. 75,000 crores and aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity per month.
The rooftop solar scheme was first announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Interim
Budget 2024-25.
Modi stated that the solar panel scheme will provide substantial subsidies to its beneficiaries, which will be transferred directly to their bank accounts.
"From substantive subsidies, which will be given directly to people's bank accounts, to heavily concessional bank loans, the Central Government will ensure that there is no cost burden on the people," the prime minister said.
The government will also provide incentives for urban local bodies and panchayats to promote rooftop solar systems in their jurisdictions. "At the same time, the scheme will lead to more income, lesser power bills and employment generation for people," he said.
