Rise in Covid-19 cases: CJI DY Chandrachud allows WFH for advocates
New Delhi, April 5: In the wake of rising number of Covid cases in India, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Wednesday allowed work from home to advocates and stated that lawyers are free to appear virtually in the court.
As per the sources, Covid-19 cases are on rise and court allowed both the mode of work – Work from home and hybrid for lawyers.

Lawyers can now appear virtually before the court and can also work on hybrid mode.
CJI in a statement said that, "We saw newspaper reports on rising Covid cases. Lawyers can use hybrid mode. If you choose to appear online, we will hear you."
The Supreme Court had reverted to the physical hearing mode of adjudication of cases from April 4, 2022, after taking into account the low infection rate and the number of Covid cases in Delhi and across the country.
The apex court has been successfully experimenting with the hybrid method -- a combination of physical and virtual -- of hearing for quite some time.
The Supreme Court has also started live-streaming the Constitution bench proceedings through the Supreme Court app and YouTube even after the resumption of physical hearings.
Notably, India on Wednesday recorded 4,435 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, the highest since the end of September, as the country grapples with a second wave of infections. The biggest single-day jump in the last 163 days (five months and 13 days), according to Union health ministry data the number of active cases increased to 23,091.
Union health ministry recorded a total of 4,777 cases which were recorded on 25 September, 2022. The fresh Covid-19 cases, India’s tally climbed to 4.47 crore (4,47,33,719) and the death toll increased to 5,30,916 with 15 deaths, the data updated at 8 am stated.

As per the sources, four deaths reported from Maharashtra; one death each was reported from Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry and Rajasthan; and four were reconciled by Kerala.
