RG Kar victim's lawyer Vrinda Grover withdraws from case citing legal differences

The decision of withdrawal stemmed from the legal differences between the legal team and the victim's family and the lawyers have been discharged from the case.

RG Kar victim's lawyer Vrinda Grover withdraws from case citing legal differences

PTC News Desk: Advocate Vrinda Grover, senior advocate who was representing the RG Kar case victim has withdrawn from the case. Senior lawyer Vrinda Grover will no longer be representing the R G Kar Medical College rape-murder victim's family. 


The decision of withdrawal spurred from the legal differences between the legal team and the victim's family and the lawyers have been discharged from the case. 

Vrinda Grover's chamber issue a statement asserting that the legal team has been providing pro bono service to the victim's family since September 2024. Advocates Soutik Banerjee and Arjun Gooptu represented the family in multiple courts 

“During this period, the evidence of 43 prosecution witnesses has been recorded, and bail for other accused persons consistently and successfully opposed. The remaining prosecution evidence is due to be completed in the next 2-3 days,” the statement said.

The statement added, “As lawyers and officers of the court, Advocate Vrinda Grover and her legal associates render legal services only in accordance with law, evidence and professional ethics. At this stage, on account of certain intervening factors and circumstances, the chamber of Advocate Vrinda Grover is constrained to withdraw from the case proceedings in this matter and will no longer be representing the victim family.”

the high court had transferred the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Kolkata police following number of PILs in the case. The victim's parents also demanded partisan investigation into the matter and sought justice
