RG Kar Medical College lands in trouble again; youth dies due to 'hospital negligence'

PTC Web Desk: A 28-year-old man, Bikram Bhattachajee, died due to negligence at RG Kar Medical College Hospital on Friday, as alleged by his mother. Bikram, who was run over by a truck, was admitted to the hospital, but died due to delay in treatment, she alleged.

Bikram Bhattachajee, a resident of Konnagar in Hooghly district, at least 25 km from Kolkata, was brought to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries. His mother, Kabita Bhattachajee, has accused the hospital of negligence, claiming that no doctors were present in the Emergency ward when her son was admitted.

She alleged that this absence led to critical delays in his treatment. “A lot of time was wasted. His surgery should have been completed, but there was no doctor available, not even an emergency doctor,” Kabita Bhattachajee stated.

On the other hand, the hospital officials authorities have denied the allegations. Dr Saptarshi Chatterjee, Medical Superintendent-cum-Vice Principal, said Bikram was promptly taken to trauma care upon arrival. He explained that Bikram had severe injuries to his limbs and head, and while a CT scan was being arranged, the patient’s condition worsened rapidly, leading to his death.
