RG Kar case: No gangrape proof, probing larger conspiracy; CBI tells high court
PTC News Desk: In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the High court that the unfortunate incident was not a gangrape and was act of a single perpetrator.
In the previous hearings, the court had sought explanation from the centra agency that whether the incident was carried out by solely Sanjay or others were also involved. However, on Friday informed the court that the medical reports and expert opinions widely suggest that the crime was not a gang rape.
Deputy Solicitor General Rajdeep Majumdar, representing the CBI, stated that forensic tests were conducted on all available DNA samples from the crime scene. A 14-member medical board, comprising doctors from hospitals across the country, examined the case. However, no forensic evidence established a case of gang rape, and DNA profiling confirmed the involvement of only the convicted accused, Sanjay Roy.
"The opinion of experts was taken. A team of 14 expert doctors formed by the CBI stated in their opinion that it was not gang rape. That is why it does not fall under Section 70 of the BNS," the deputy solicitor general said.
Justie Ghosh has further directed the CBI to produce on April 23 the case diary handed over to them by Kolkata Police and provide a list of people the central agency has examined. 'I want to assess, that why further investigation is taking time. You have said that you cannot provide a timelinewhich means you must be struck somewhere.' the judge said.
The matter has been listed for next hearing on April 23.
