Constitutional Commencement: Republic Day in India is not just a commemoration of the adoption of the Constitution, but also marks its commencement. It was on January 26, 1950, that the Constitution of India came into effect, transforming the nation into a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.

Original Venue: The iconic Rajpath in New Delhi, where the grand Republic Day parade would take place befor ebeing shifted to Kartavya Path, was not the original venue. The first Republic Day parade was held at the Irwin Stadium (now the National Stadium) in 1950. It was only in 1955 that the venue was shifted to Rajpath.

Guests of Honour: Each year, India extends an invitation to a distinguished foreign dignitary to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations. In 1968, the country welcomed the first-ever non-head of state as the Chief Guest, when French President Charles de Gaulle attended the event.

Abrogation of Privy Purses: Republic Day holds historical significance beyond its constitutional roots. On January 26, 1971, the government announced the abrogation of the princely states' privy purses, a move that marked the end of an era in Indian history.

Unfurling the Largest National Flag: Republic Day often witnesses the unfurling of the largest national flag in the country.
