Republic Day 2023: Chandigarh Traffic Police announce curbs, diversions for January 26; check details
Chandigarh, January 24: In view of Republic Day function at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh, the Chandigarh Police have made some traffic restrictions and diversions on January 26.
As per the advisory issued by the Chandigarh Traffic Police, certain road stretches around Parade Ground, Sector 17, shall remain closed from 6.30 am onwards on January 26 till the time the function at the Parade Ground is over.
These included from roundabout of Sector 16/17/22/23 up to Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Sector 22-A on Udyog Path; from Old District Court, Sector 17, up to Shivalik Hotel on the backside of Parade Ground, Sector 17 and from Lyon’s Restaurant Light Point near MC Office, Sector 17, up to Parade Ground.

No general parking shall be allowed in the parking area in front of shops in market of Sector 22-A from 6.30 am onwards till the function gets over. Special invitees having authorised car parking labels have been requested to approach Parade Ground, Sector 17, from the roundabout of Sectors 16/17/22/23 (Cricket Stadium Chowk) on Udyog Path and park their vehicles in the parking area in front of the market of Sector 22-A.
The general public has been requested to approach Parade Ground, Sector 17, either from ISBT Sector 17 Chowk or from Sector 17/18 light point side.
Designated parking lots have been earmarked for the general public — Parking area of Sector 22-B; Circus Ground, Sector 17; parking area adjacent Neelam Cinema, Sector 17 and multi-story parking, Sector 17.

Buses coming towards ISBT, Sector 17, shall be diverted towards ISBT Chowk, Sector 17, from Kissan Bhawan Chowk and Piccadilly Chowk via Himalaya Marg and shall reach ISBT, Sector 17, from Small Chowk (near Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump).
Further, in order to de-congest this area at the time of dispersal, traffic shall be diverted away from ISBT, Sector 17 chowk, on Udyog Path by diverting traffic coming from Sector 17/18 light point, Aroma light point, Sector 18/19/20/21 chowk and Cricket Stadium Chowk for half an hour from 11.30 am to 12.15 pm. Further, at the time of dispersal, only buses will be allowed to ply on this stretch.
Road users have, therefore, been advised to make use of alternative routes during the timings given above.
On the other hand, invitees have been requested to be seated latest by 9:15 am at the Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Special invitees/attendees are requested to enter Parade Ground from Gate Nos. 4, 6 & 7 i.e. opposite Sector 22 side, Chandigarh. General public is requested to enter Parade Ground from Gate No. 8, 9 & 10 i.e. opposite ISBT Sector 17, Chandigarh.
Media persons are requested to enter Parade Ground from Gate No. 5 i.e. opposite Sector 22 side, Chandigarh. All attendees are requested to carry an original photo ID card. Special invitees have been requested to prominently display the authorised “Parking Label” on the windscreen of their vehicles and carry invitation card.
All attendees have been requested not to bring any objectionable articles such as bag, match box, knife, cigarette, weapon, liquor, inflammable items, electronic devices, black flag, banners/posters, etc.
Traffic advisory for “At Home” function at Punjab Raj Bhawan & Haryana Raj Bhawan on Republic Day
In view of “At Home” function on the occasion of Republic Day-2023 at Punjab Raj Bhawan and Haryana Raj Bhawan, the following traffic restrictions/diversions shall be in place on January 26.
Around Punjab Raj Bhawan: Movement on the road stretch in front of Punjab Raj Bhawan from roundabout of Sector 5/6/7/8 till T-Point of Vigyan Path and Sukhna Path near Chandigarh Golf Club shall remain restricted / diverted for the general public from 3 pm onwards on January 26 until the event gets over.
“At Home” invitees are requested to approach the Punjab Raj Bhawan from Sector 5/6/7/8 Chowk on Vigyan Path as one-way traffic system shall be implemented in front of Punjab Raj Bhawan. Invitees are also requested to prominently display the authorised “Parking Label” on the windscreen of their vehicles.
Members of Chandigarh Golf Club are requested to use Sukhna Path road from SGGS College side (dividing road of Sectors 7/26) for approaching and leaving the club from 3 pm onwards on January 26 till the function gets over.
Around Haryana Raj Bhawan
Movement on the road stretch from Gursagar Sahib Gurudwara turn on Uttar Marg up to 5/6/7/8 Chowk on Vigyan Path shall remain restricted /diverted for the general public from 4 pm onwards on January 26. “At Home” invitees are requested to approach Haryana Raj Bhawan from Sukhna Lake side on Uttar Marg as one-way traffic system shall be implemented in front of Haryana Raj Bhawan. General public is requested to use Uttar Marg from Rock Garden side for approaching Sukhna Lake.
