Ratan Tata death: Billionaire tycoon Ratan Tata is known globally for his business achievements. Despite, being such a well-known personality, details about his personal life remained private over the years, especially his marital status.

In a 2011 interview with CNN, the industrialist said that he came close to marrying four times in his life but backed out due to fear.

"I came very close to being married four times, but each time I backed out due to fear or for other reasons. Each situation was different, but in retrospect, given the people involved, what I did was not a horrible thing," he said. "I believe it would have been more complicated had the marriage taken place," he added.

He also revealed that he had "seriously" fallen in love four times in his life.

One of those times, he admitted to having a relationship with an American woman he met while working in the United States.

"I was probably the most serious when I was working in the United States, and the only reason we didn't marry was because I returned to India and she was supposed to accompany me. It was the year of the Indo-Chinese conflict. The conflict in the snowy, uninhabited part of the Himalayas was viewed in the United States as a huge war between India and China, so she did not come. She married in the United States instead," he explained.

Tata returned to India in 1962, as his grandmother became unwell.

Tata said in another interview with TV host Simi Grewal that he has always been a bachelor.

"Without a wife, without children, without family - What motivates you?" she asked him.

"I'm not sure what motivates me, but let me think about that for a minute. There are many moments when I feel lonely because I do not have a wife or family, and I at times desire for them. But sometimes I love the independence of not having to care about other people's feelings or concerns," he said.
