Raksha Bandhan 2024: History and significance

A tale surrounding Raksha Bandhan has its roots in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The legend states that Lord Krishna cut the Sudarshan Chakra by mistake once. Draupadi saw that he was hurt and tore a saree piece, tying it to stop the bleeding. Lord Krishna, moved by her generosity, vowed to keep Draupadi safe eternally. He kept his word when the Kauravas attempted to strip Draupadi in front of the entire Hastinapur royal court, publicly humiliating her.

Another tradition links Goddess Indrani and Lord Indra to the festival's inception. Drik Panchang claims that the tale illustrates the potency of sacred thread. Demons challenged Lord Indra, but he was outmatched in might. Lord Indra defeated the demons because Goddes Indrani tied a holy pouch called Raksha Potali on his hand as he was heading into battle.

For Hindus, Raksha Bandhan is a very important holiday. It pays respect to the sibling bond. In addition, married ladies use the festival as an excuse to attend the wedding back at their parents' house.

Raksha Bandhan 2024 Celebrations: How to celebrate Rakhi?

Sisters perform tilak ceremonies and aartis on their brothers' hands in addition to tying a sacred thread, known as Raksha Bandhan. In the meantime, the brothers swear to keep them safe from all harm in order to honor their sister's love and devotion for them. Rakhi is being tied on sisters' wrists by brothers as well as by sisters themselves these days. Present-exchanging has also become a ritual in the modern setting. Siblings spoil one another with presents and heartfelt surprises. Rakhi can be celebrated in a variety of ways, such as cooking for your sibling, organizing a movie marathon, or taking them on a trip.
