Rajkot apartment fire kills three, one injured; Short circuit suspected
PTC Web Desk: A devastating fire broke out on the sixth floor of the Atlantis residential apartment building in Rajkot, Gujarat, on Friday morning, claiming three lives and leaving one person injured, the police confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagdish Bangarwa stated that the injured was receiving treatment at a hospital while all other residents had been safely evacuated. "The fire is now under control, and rescue operations have been completed," he added.
The blaze, which started around 10 am, spread to the fifth floor, causing panic among residents. Firefighters, using hydraulic lifts, managed to evacuate multiple families from the upper floors, ensuring their safety.
DCP Crime Parthrajsinh Gohil mentioned that initial findings point to a short circuit in the sixth-floor lobby during renovation work as a possible cause of the fire. However, an official investigation is underway to determine the exact reason.
The Atlantis building, located on the 150 Feet Ring Road in Rajkot, is home to several prominent professionals, including jewellers, doctors, and builders. The authorities have urged residents to follow fire safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
