Rain lashes Punjab and several parts of north India, brings relief from scorching heat

Punjab Weather Update: Monsoon knocks the door of Punjab as heavy rainfall in parts of north India, including Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi brought respite from the searing heatwave in the region and the temperature has also dropped by a few notches.


IMD issues yellow alert 

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and winds in Punjab on June 26, 27 and 28. 

Meanwhile, Punjab’s Amritsar has been recorded as the wettest place, followed by Gurdaspur, Faridkot , Ferozepur and Pathankot. 

IMD also issued warning of heavy to Extremely Heavy rainfall warning with expected impact and recommended action.

IMD took to its official Twitter handle and posted a weather update video.

In an official statement issued by IMD states, "Isolated heavy/very rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand during 23rd-27th; Himachal Pradesh during 24th-27th; Punjab,Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during 25th -27th June." 

IMD also said, "The southwest monsoon is active now. It has covered the whole of Maharashtra including Mumbai. Monsoon has also arrived in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and parts of Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu. It will move forward in the next two days and will cover other parts also." 

Heavy rainfall lashes Himachal Pradesh 

Heavy rainfall in sveral parts of Himachal Pradesh including Mandi, Kullu, Manali and Pandoh resulted in widespread havoc. Various parts of the district witnessed damage to roads, cowsheds, houses, and vehicles. The torrential downpour led to landslides, blocking a total of 32 roads across the district.

A lengthy traffic jam spanning from Nerchowk to Mandi occurred on the Chandigarh-Manali highway on Monday due to road blockage between Mandi and Pandoh in Mandi district.

Numerous tourists heading towards Kullu-Manali from Mandi or traveling to Mandi from the Kullu side also faced inconvenience. 

Overall, the rain brought relief to North Indians from the scorching heat, offering a pleasant start to the day and a much-needed respite from the prevailing weather conditions.
