Rain alert issued for Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh | Check Details
PTC Web Desk: In a significant development, the Western Disturbance has begun to impact the states of Haryana and Punjab, casting a shadow over several areas, including Panchkula and Amritsar. Cool winds are prevailing in some regions, while Ambala, Panipat, and Mahendragarh are experiencing sunny conditions. Clouds have now gathered in Narnaul after the morning sun.
The meteorological department has indicated the possibility of rain in some parts of Punjab and Haryana, while changes in weather are expected in Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh from tonight. Higher mountainous areas may witness snowfall, while plains and lower regions are likely to experience rainfall.
A yellow alert for rain has been issued in nine districts of Haryana, including Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri. The likelihood of rain with thunderstorms is anticipated across Haryana on February 4. Chandigarh, although not under any alert on Saturday, might see rain on Sunday.
In Punjab, a yellow alert for rain has been issued in six districts, namely Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, and Mansa. Other districts have lower chances of rainfall. February 4 is expected to bring widespread rain across Punjab.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh has finally witnessed a blanket of snow in high-altitude areas after a prolonged wait. Accumulations range from 14 to 42 cm in various elevated regions. Although most areas remained clear on Friday, the meteorological centre forecasts the activation of the Western Disturbance from the night of February 3. Consequently, the state may experience rain and snowfall from February 4 to February 7.
