Railway Ministry renames Bhuj-Ahmedabad Vande Metro to Namo Bharat Rapid Rail ahead of inaugural run
PTC Web Desk: The Railway Ministry has renamed the Bhuj-Ahmedabad Vande Metro to Namo Bharat Rapid Rail just hours before its inaugural run on Monday, as announced by a ministry spokesperson. The service will be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Ahmedabad at 4:15 pmM, while the train will depart from Bhuj railway station.
The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, designed to boost intercity connectivity, will cover the 359 km journey from Bhuj to Ahmedabad in 5 hours and 45 minutes, making stops at nine stations along the route. The regular public service is set to commence on September 17 from Ahmedabad, with a one-way ticket priced at ?455.
According to the spokesperson, the renaming from Vande Metro to Namo Bharat Rapid Rail reflects the service’s enhanced connectivity compared to traditional metro services. The Rapid Rail will link Ahmedabad's core areas with its peripheral cities.
The train features 12 coaches with a seating capacity of 1,150 passengers. It boasts several innovative features, including ergonomically designed seats, fully air-conditioned cabins, and modular interiors. Notably, it includes ejector-based vacuum evacuation toilets, offering a significant upgrade from traditional suburban trains and metro coaches.
The Rapid Rail's rapid acceleration and deceleration capabilities, along with driving cabs at both ends to eliminate turnaround time, ensure efficient and faster travel between mid-distance cities.
