Rahul Gandhi meets protesting farmers in Parliament complex after entry row, discuss MSP issue
PTC News Desk: A day after the announcement of the Union Budget 2024, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met with a farmers' delegation on Wednesday to discuss the long-pending issue of legal minimum support price (MSP).
The delegation represented two organisations: the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Majdoor Morcha (KMM), and included farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
The meeting also included senior Congress leaders KC Venugopal and Deepender Singh Hooda, as well as MPs Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
According to reports, the farmer leaders were first denied entry into the Parliament complex until Rahul Gandhi intervened. The discussion was then held at Gandhi's office in the new Parliament building.
There was confusion before the meeting because farmers weren't allowed to enter. "We invited them... but they are not allowing them inside Parliament. They are farmers, maybe this is why...you will have to ask the Prime Minister the reason for this," the Congress leader said.
Discussing the issue of MSP, Rahul Gandhi said, "In our manifesto, we focused on MSP and a legal guarantee. We have done the assessment, and it can be implemented. We held a meeting where we decided to talk to other leaders of the INDIA alliance and exert pressure on the government to provide a legal guarantee on MSP to the country's farmers."
pic.twitter.com/TRvI4N6auX — Congress (@INCIndia) July 24, 2024
