Rahul Gandhi alleges corruption, Amit Shah's control over Himanta Sarma post Assam clash

PTC News Desk: In a dramatic turn of events, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has labeled Himanta Biswa Sarma as the most corrupt Chief Minister in the country. This assertion from Gandhi surfaces a day after an FIR was lodged against him and fellow Congress leaders in Guwahati following a clash with the police.

During his ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Barpeta, Assam, Rahul Gandhi declared, "He is the most corrupt Chief Minister in the country. Whatever is conveyed to you by the media is exactly what the Assam CM has stated to them."

Gandhi further alleged that the control of Assam's Chief Minister lies in the hands of Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister. "If he (Himanta Biswa Sarma) dares to say anything against Amit Shah, he will be thrown out of the party," added Gandhi, hinting at a significant influence from the central government on the state leadership.

The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' resumed in Barpeta on its 11th day after commencing from Thoubal, Manipur, on January 14. The FIR against Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders was filed on Tuesday in the aftermath of a clash between Congress workers and police personnel. The conflict arose over the denial of permission for the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' to traverse its main routes and enter Guwahati.

On Tuesday, the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated that the case was registered against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and other party members. He clarified that the FIR was initiated by the police due to "wanton acts of violence, provocation, damage to public property, and assault on police personnel by Congress members." The political tensions in Assam continue to escalate, raising concerns about the evolving situation in the state.
