Punjab, Haryana, Himachal likely to witness high rain during next 3-4 days

PTC Web Desk: Rains activity is expected to increase across northwest India, with heavy to very heavy rains from June 28 to 30, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Conditions are expected to improve for further Monsoon advance into some portions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, northern Punjab, and northern Haryana during the next 3-4 days, according to the IMD.


The IMD has issued an orange alert for isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand from June 28 to 30; East Uttar Pradesh from June 28 to 29; and Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh from June 29 to 30.

The monsoon is currently running about a week behind the timeline. It slowed down for approximately 9 days following June 11.

There is a 19% rain shortfall across the country, with 57% in northwest India, 23% in central India, 16% in east and northeast India, and 9% excess in peninsular India.

Taking to X, M Rajeevan, former secretary of Ministry of Earth Sciences said, “After its revival, monsoon will progress further & cover whole country by July 5. Active monsoon phase expected next 2-3 weeks with heavy rains along west coast and north India. High probability of extreme rains & flooding in north India."
