Pune Porsche case: Bribe for blood sample taken at JJB hospital, says police
PTC News Desk: The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Pune received a bribe to exchange the blood samples of a 17-year-old boy who was accused of killing two software engineers in a crash involving a Porsche and a motorcycle last month. The JJB then sent the accused to detention after the incident caused widespread outcry.
Ashpak Makandar, a go-between for the teen's family and Sassoon General Hospital mortuary staffer Atul Ghalkamble, allegedly gave over the cash, according to a top Pune police officer.
Ghalkamble has previously been taken into custody for allegedly altering the minor's blood samples, along with the hospital's suspended director of the forensics department, Dr. Ajay Taware, and former casualty medical officer, Dr. Shrihari Halnor.
The accused's mother, who was detained alongside her father, recently confessed to altering evidence in front of the police, claiming that she had changed the man's blood type to hide his inebriation.
At the JJB's premises, Makandar gave Ghalkamble the bribe that the parents had provided. Ghalkamble received ₹3 lakh, according to investigations," the aforementioned official stated, requesting to remain anonymous.
The officer said, "Police recovered Rs 2.5 lakh from Halnor and the remaining amount from Ghalkamble."
The child's first blood sample was drawn at Sassoon General Hospital on May 19 at approximately 11 a.m., hours after the incident, according to the police. Aundh Government Hospital collected a second sample from the minor when police discovered that the blood sample had been manipulated. When the juvenile's father's third blood sample was compared to the first, it was discovered that the first had been tampered with and that the blood belonged to someone else.
