Priyanka Gandhi Vadra takes oath as Wayanad Lok Sabha MP
PTC News Desk: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra takes oath as MP. She won from Kerala's Wayanad in a Lok Sabha bypoll.
She secured a thumping victory in her electoral debut with a margin of 4 lakhs votes. She will join her brother Rahul Gandhi, a Raebareli MP, and mother Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha parliamentarian.
With Vadra's entry, Parliament will now see three members from the Gandhi family for the first time in decades. While the brother-sister duo will be representing in Lok Sabha, their mother Sonia Gandhi is in the Rajya Sabha after she opted not to contest from Raebareli in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
Priyanka Gandhi will be third woman from Gandhi family to take oath as parliamentarian after her mother Sonia Gandhi and grandmother and former prime minister of India late Indira Gandhi.
Following her victory, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said she looked forward to being the voice of the people in Parliament.
"I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me. I will make sure that over time, you truly feel this victory has been your victory and the person you chose to represent you understands your hopes and dreams and fights for you as one of your own. I look forward to being your voice in Parliament," she tweeted.
