Prime Minister Modi takes Delhi Metro to join Delhi University's centenary celebrations
New Delhi, June 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi opted for a unique mode of transportation today as he traveled by the Delhi Metro to join the centenary festivities of Delhi University. As the chief guest for the closing ceremony, PM Modi's participation marks a significant moment for the university, which commenced its centenary celebrations on May 1, 2022, coinciding with its foundation day.
Videos capturing the PM's metro ride showcased him mingling with fellow passengers and engaging in conversations. "Happy to have youngsters as my co-passengers," PM Modi tweeted, sharing snapshots of his interaction with students on board the metro coach.

In a prior announcement on Thursday, PM Modi expressed his intention to attend the university's centenary celebrations, acknowledging Delhi University's role as a prestigious learning institution that has nurtured talent and fostered intellectual growth for a century. He conveyed his congratulations to the DU fraternity on reaching this milestone via Twitter.
During the event, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Delhi University Computer Centre and lay the foundation stones for the Faculty of Technology building and the academic block, both of which will be constructed in the North Campus of the university.
Established in 1922 through an Act of the Central Legislative Assembly, Delhi University holds the status of an Institute of Eminence granted by the University Grants Commission.

In preparation for the live telecast of the university's centenary celebrations, several Delhi University colleges have issued guidelines. These include instructions such as not wearing black dresses, mandatory attendance, and suspension of classes between 10 am to 12 pm. Hansraj College, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, and Zakir Husain Delhi College have made it compulsory for students and faculty to attend the live telecast.
On the other hand, some colleges have clarified that they have only "requested" students and faculty to participate in the event, without enforcing compulsory attendance, according to news agency PTI.
Addressing concerns regarding attendance, the Delhi University administration clarified that it has not made attendance mandatory for the event. The live telecast is being arranged to enable those unable to physically attend to witness the proceedings. Registrar Vikas Gupta emphasized that the university has not issued any orders regarding compulsory attendance.
