PM Narendra Modi sets off for two-day visit to Bhutan

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a two-day state visit to Bhutan after a prior postponement due to adverse weather conditions in the Himalayan nation.

Before his departure, PM Modi expressed his anticipation for the trip, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the India-Bhutan partnership. His itinerary includes engagements with Bhutan's King, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.

Originally slated for March 21-22, Modi's visit was rescheduled, ensuring diplomatic arrangements between the two countries. Bhutan had eagerly prepared for his arrival, with posters and billboards adorning the country in welcome.

The visit holds significance as it follows Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay's recent trip to India, during which discussions centered on enhancing bilateral ties and supporting Bhutan's developmental goals. India pledged substantial aid for Bhutan's 13th five-year plan, focusing on infrastructure, connectivity, and various sectors like agriculture and healthcare.

Both leaders reaffirmed the enduring friendship between India and Bhutan, acknowledging it as a regional strength. Modi reiterated India's commitment to assisting Bhutan's progress towards becoming a high-income nation, aligning with the vision of Bhutan's king.

Grateful for India's past aid, Tobgay thanked the Indian government for its support, particularly the Rs 5,000 crore assistance for Bhutan's last five-year plan. The joint statement emphasized future collaboration in infrastructure development, connectivity enhancement, and various socio-economic sectors to bolster bilateral ties further.

PM Modi's visit to Bhutan underscores the strategic importance of the India-Bhutan partnership and highlights the shared commitment to mutual growth and prosperity.
